The Change is Coming series was taken from the book of Nehemiah. It recounts his audacious plan to rebuild the 150 years broken wall of Judah.

This preaching series is more than a prelude to Ignite. It is a prelude to the change God is about to do in our campuses, our nation and the world. We believe it’s possible for change to happen when we have faith in God.

Two reasons Nehemiah had faith in God for change

Faith in Gods power

“And I said, “O LORD God of heaven, the great and awesome God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments,”

– Nehemiah 1:5

Nehemiah recognized that rebuilding the wall was way beyond him. It just seemed impossible. He declared then that only through the power of God can this happen.

Faith in Gods promises

“Remember the word that you commanded your servant Moses, saying, ‘If you are unfaithful, I will scatter you among the peoples, but if you return to me and keep my commandments and do them, though your outcasts are in the uttermost parts of heaven, from there I will gather them and bring them to the place that I have chosen, to make my name dwell there.”

– Nehemiah 1:8-9

Nehemiah quoted God’s promise in Leviticus 26 and Deuteronomy 30. Nehemiah lived more than 800 years after God made these promises to Moses. God’s promises were enough for Nehemiah to believe for change.

When Nehemiah put his faith in God for change, the rest was history. The same thing can happen to us. The question now is what do as leaders?

1.) Create awareness and concern.

What are the things happening in your campus or country? What are the issues? What are the pressing needs? The more aware we are of these, the more we can be strategic in praying and believing God for change. Share it with your members. Let them be aware of and concerned about what’s happening. We cannot be indifferent and do nothing.

2.) Pray

I remembered when Jen Ramos, our campus minister in UE Caloocan, prayed together with her campus team for her to get inside the campus. They prayed almost everyday. After a month, an organization hosted her and she was allowed inside whenever she wants. Are you believing for something like that too? Pray!

3.) Declare Gods promises

If God promised something, we can be sure that He’ll fulfill it. The Bible says faith comes from hearing the word. Though its context pertains to salvation, this is equally true for the things we want to change. There are thousands of God’s promises. Declare it. God is not annoyed when we plead to Him His promises. In fact, He delights in it.

Nehemiah did this alone. Our advantage is that we can do it with our campus team. We can pray and declare God’s promises together. Together, we can change the campus and change the world.

Change is possible when we have an unwavering faith in Gods unwavering power and promises.
